Encouragement, Faith and Hope offered in book about Amish

Even within the Amish communities, there are struggles to deal with in life. Faith does not automatically solve everything. It takes time. Rachel deals with the death of her husband, raising his children and trying to run the Dairy Farm alone. Family pitches in but like all families they can be trying on you. Ezra's brothers help but also cause hardships upon Rachel in trying to force their decisions on her. Families seem to think they always know what is best for you. Rachel has to struggle with issues dealing with Gideon, Ezra's best friend, and Isaac and William, Ezra's brothers and yes, even her own parents. Rachel has to think about what is best for her and he children. She has dreams but she isn't always supported in those dreams.
But like all parents eventually her parents come around and support her in her dreams. They are always there to help even when they disagree.
Then Leah is her best friend and she feels at first like she loses her support to. But it was just her misunderstanding what Leah meant. Good friends always work through situations. Rachel is there to help Leah when her baby is born.
Rachel and Gideon's relationship starts off with Gideon building a greenhouse for Rachel because it was to be Ezra's gift to her. But he wasn't prepared for his heart to open up to love again as he was still grieving the death of his wife and baby.
Hardships hit the Amish as they do us (referred to as Englishers) and life is the same whether you are Amish or not. We all face situations where our faith is tested.
I received this book at a time I was dealing with hurt from a lady in church, health situations, the loss of my Mother, etc. So it was very uplifting and encouraging.
I highly recommend this book to inspire and encourage you every day in your walk through life.

Pleasant Amish romance

In Pleasant Valley, Pennsylvania, Widow Rachel Brand has no time to grieve the death of her husband Ezra in an accident. Instead she has a farm to keep and three young children to raise by herself though she knows her Amish neighbors will offer help.

Ezra's best friend Gideon Zook, who survived the accident, wants to honor his deceased buddy by completing a project he was going to do for his wife. Ezra intended to build a greenhouse for Rachel. However, her family pressures her to sell the farm instead of starting a nursery. However, questionable accidents leaves Gideon and Rachel to wonder if someone covets the land so much as to drive the widow away and to reconsider what happened to Ezra even as they fall in love.

The second Pleasant Valley Amish romance (see Leah's Choice) is an interesting look at two people who lost their first cherished mates who are falling in love but are in denial about how they feel. The lead couples makes the tale as the ghosts of Ezra and Naomi stand in their way as Gideon is unable to move on; somewhat because he suffers from survivor guilt and somewhat from his disbelief that one can love twice. Fans will enjoy a trip to Lancaster County as Marta Perry provides a charming second chance at love romance.

It has been a year since Rachel Brand lost her husband Ezra. His untimely death was attributed to an accident. His memory still lingers fresh in her mind each time she looks into one of her three children's faces.

Rachel is determined to do whatever it takes to save her dairy farm. She readily accepts help when her Amish friends offer her assistance. Gideon Zook was Ezra's best friend. He was with him the day that he died and his memory is still haunted by that horrific day.

Gideon offers to fulfill a promise that Ezra had made to Rachel, to build a greenhouse. With a heavy heart she accepts and allows him to being building. Her family is against her starting a nursery; instead they insist she sale the farm.

Gideon is plagued that he was able to survive the accident where as Ezra lost his life. Working at Rachel's farm he sees her for the beautiful woman that he has always known her to be. The daily interaction has both of them experiencing feelings they never thought possible. Will they be able to put the past behind them and focus on the future?

There is one who is intent to see the young widow is driven to sale. With each hardship Rachel experiences they grow closer to seeing her lose her farm. Will this madman succeed in driving Rachel away from her land?

Rachel's Garden - Pleasant Valley Book Two is second in the Pleasant Valley series. Once again Marta Perry has done an exceptional job in writing a riveting book that is assured to keep you glued to your seat. I look forward to the next installment in this highly addictive series. The simplistic life of the Amish lifestyle mixed in with an element of greed makes for one outstanding novel.

Madeira "Maddie" Cutler owns and operates a vintage clothing shop in Mystick Falls, Connecticut. Maddie can touch vintage items, mainly clothing, and receive visions at times. Maddie's best friend since kindergarten, Eve Meyers, still gets freaked out whenever Maddie zones out (a.k.a. is having a vision).

Maddie receives a package from a famous friend, Dominique "Dom" DeLong. It is the gorgeous seafoam gown Maddie designed for the Broadway star a decade ago. Maddie and Dom had dinner together in New York City only a few weeks ago. But last Friday night the actress collapsed during an off-Broadway musical performance. Enclosed with the gown is a note from Dom asking Maddie to use her special talents to snoop and find her killer. To make matters a bit more complicated, the priceless diamonds that Dom had been wearing in the show are missing.

Dom's son, Kyle, welcomes Maddie and Eve to New York. Turns out that Maddie is named as the executor for Dom. Kyle seems to be the only one Maddie likes or trusts. Kyle's mother told him about Maddie's psychometric visions and he has high hopes that Maddie will learn the identity of his mother's killer, if not what happened to the infamous Pierpont diamonds. There is a wide selection of suspects to choose from. Ian is the philandering ex-husband. Quinny is the catty "best friend". Lance, the leading man of the show. Ursula, Dom's understudy. Zander, Dom's personal chef. The list goes on and on.

Nick Jaconetti, Maddie's FBI boyfriend, is helping with the missing diamond investigation. They share an on-again/off-again relationship. Nick asks Detective Sergeant Lytton Werner to come act as Maddie's bodyguard because the diamond case keeps taking him away from her side. Both Nick and Lytton are interested in Maddie. She soon feels as if she is in the middle of a pheromone war. But can even these two strong lawmen keep Maddie safe?

***** FIVE STARS! Since Maddie travels to New York, the normal cast of spirits in Mystick Falls have little-to-no time in the lime light. However, the unseen spirits of Maddie's mother and Dom are around. Nick is still hot, but Lytton begins some competition with his thermonuclear kiss. To say that Annette Blair has revved up the drama and intensity would be putting it too mildly. The depicted members of a group, dubbed The Parasites, could not have been more perfect. These are the people who use the death of a celebrity to further their own careers. The author has managed to combine greedy snobs, famous leeches, and some lovable characters together to create one of the most interesting mysteries I have read this year. A magnificent story! *****

Fashionably Good Read

Early one morning, Maddie receives a package and a letter from dear friend. The letter contains Dominique's final wishes. Dom knew her life was in danger and she asks Maddie to help solve her death. When her son, Kyle, calls Maddie, she drops everything and rushes with her side with her BFF Eve and her on-again boyfriend Nick.

Nick works with the FBI. They're more interested in the missing diamonds. When he leaves to catch a potential carrier of the diamonds, he asks local sheriff Werner to keep his eye on Maddie.

Maddie and Kyle dig into this mother's death. They're attempting to weed out friends, parasites, and foes from Dom's acquaintances. It's a tough job, but they seem to be on the right track as Maddie receives a threatening phone call.

Maddie sees unique information due to her psychic ability when touching vintage clothing. She's not sharing her talent, which means she must validate each clue in order to account for her visions.

Will she be able to find the clues to stamp her theories into reality?

The third book in the Vintage Magic series continues to be a charming read with more romance, more vintage clothing, and lots of danger. I love the spark between Werner and Maddie and the now love triangle. I love how Nick's assumptions infuriate Maddie and she stands up to his notions. Most of all, I love the relationship between Maddie and Eve.

AWESOME! SERIES JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER

This is the third Vintage Magic Mystery, and tough I love them all, this one took it to a whole new level. In DEATH BY DIAMONDS, Annette Blair gives you a satisfying blend of everything you could want in a mystery and she leaves you wanting the next one NOW! I read DEATH BY DIAMONDS in one night, thought about it all day, and read it a second time. It's that good. Discover Broadway, and all that lurks behind the scenes, the Parasites, greed, lust, love, humor, quick minds, greed, and loyalty. THERE'S SATISFACTION PLUS TO BE FOUND IN THESE PAGES. Not to mention Madeira Cutler's usual psychic abilities and the men in her life: the FBI Special Agent, Dante Underhill, the ghost in top hat and tux for eternity, and Detective Sargent Lytton Werner. Triple yum.

Very Funny

Lori Foster weaves an intriguing plot of characters in “Causing Havoc.” Lori is both witty and very funny. The hunk of a SBC fighter Dean “Havoc” Connor possesses the muscular look with his bruised and battered body His parents died when his was nine years old. He was separated from his two sisters for twenty years. He returns to Harmony, Kentucky where he meets Eve one of his sister’s friend. The steam sizzles. Roger the sleaze is wealthy and one of Dean’s sister fiance and looks like a criminal

The story was too ordinary and sweet for me. It was not entertaining enough. I prefer wittier dialogue and unexpected actions.

All the main characters are likeable and nice to each other. Couples fall in love at first sight. There are a couple of "bad guys" who cause conflict. I do not recommend it because there was nothing creative or unusual about it. I wasn't surprised or delighted. The book reminded me of normal conversations and actions of people living in a small town. I would have preferred wittier dialogue.

Story brief: Dean is a mixed maritial arts fighter. His parents died when he was about 8. His uncle Grover raised him. His Aunt Lorna raised his two younger sisters, Cam and Jacki. Lorna hated Grover and Dean and never told his sisters that Dean existed. 21 years later Cam learns Dean exists and writes him. He visits and becomes involved in their lives. He also meets and immediately falls in love with Eve who is Cam's best friend.

Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: about four. Setting: current day Harmony, Kentucky. Copyright: 2007. Genre: contemporary romance with a little suspense.

Great romance and loved the story line

Dean is an SBC fighter who receives a letter from his estranged sister Cam whom he hasn't seen since he was nine years old when his parents died. He was taken away from his sisters and was sent to live with his uncle. He decides to return home to Harmony Kentucky to see what she needs with the intentions that he isn't gonig to stay long. When he gets there he meets this attractive women Eve who blows his mind. Only to find out later that Eve is his sisters best friend. Dean tries to refrain from being the protective big brother, by telling himself that he is not planning on staying more than a few days. Things change though as Dean becomes intimatly involved with Eve and starts playing the big brother to his sisters. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was a great story line and mixed well with the sex scenes. I couldn't put this book down and couldn't wait to read the next in the series.

Held My Interest

At the beginning of the story, Signet is very depressed. Signet's family members are deceased, her friends are gone, her flair is unfocused and unexplainable, and her life seems bleak and futureless. Enter the prophet Vinni, who wants Signet to assist his HeartMate Avellana through her magical passages. Avellana had an accident as a child, and consequently, her brain patterns are damaged. Vinni fears for her life, but with his visions, Vinni sees that Signet can save Avellana. Avellana's family installs her in the mansion and also sees that Signet and Avellana are guarded by Cratag Maytree. Cratag is a diamond in the rough - a strong, supportive man with limited flair, but loyal and a warrior to the bone. Signet quickly realizes that Cratag is her Heartmate. The story is basically about Avellana's crisis with her passage and the love between Signet and Cratag.

Lately, I haven't been reading too much. It seems that my old standby authors are heading in directions I don't particularly care for, i.e., Linda Howard with romantic suspense, and some of my other favorite authors are stretching their series way too far - further than the story can hold your interest, i.e., L.K. Hamilton's Merry series. Still other favorite authors' books seem forced (Nora Roberts) or just plain scattered. Perhaps it's me, but lately, the publishing world doesn't seem to know how to leave the authors alone to tell a really good story. Heart Change is the first book in a while that I started reading and read through within a day or so. It held my interest, and it was a sweet, pleasant story - no overwhelming emo and angst, as some of the stories lately. It was well-written and definitely worth the money and time.

If there are any complaints at all, I felt the ending was rather sudden. I would have liked the story to just continue into the evening and into the Heart Bond. I also would have liked a tad more interaction between Signet and Cratag, but that is a minor complaint. I definitely saw what Signet loved in Cratag, but didn't know what Cratag saw in Signet. He was very focused on her First Family status the entire book, and sometimes I felt that was all he saw, but I still was content that they were in love with each other and felt it was a good match.

A Change Of Heart Brings An End To Loneliness

Heart Change was a pleasant journey to a favorite world, the wicanish Celta, where magic takes the place of technology and where, if you are lucky, you'll find your perfect love - your Heartmate.

When Signet D'Marigold agrees to aid young seer Vinni's Heartmate, Avellina, through her "passage" - a passage which Vinni `sees' that Avellina will not survive with out Signet's help - Signet suddenly finds her lonely life changing for the better. Not only is Vinni able to finally help Signet identify her formerly unknown yet powerful talent of being a Catalyst who brings positive changes in the lives of those around her but also Signet suddenly finds her home filling up with her young charge and the body guard Vinnie also deems necessary for Avellina's survival - the scarred yet solid Cratag Maytree.

Both Signet and Cratag are pleasant characters and their relationship grows despite Signet's fear of abandonment and Cratag's issues as well. Missing between them is the insurmountable obstacle that many of the former Heartmate pairs have to overcome in order to be together. And since so much of the story is centered around Avellina's passage and bad luck, and with so many other characters having bits of the story, Signet and Cratag don't get a great deal of time alone in the spotlight. This means that they don't get to do a lot of the normal Heatmate things like exchanging Heart Gifts or sharing the Heart Bond.

Overall, Heart Change was an enjoyable enough read with lots of Fams (magical pets), and pieces put into play for future stories, but with most of the focus and the peril not centered on Signet and Cratag, theirs was not one of the most memorable pairings in the series.

Rarely have the crimes of a serial murderer captured the imagination and fears of the entire country as did the unsolved "Zodiac" killings in the Bay Area in the 1970s. Close to the investigators and long obsessed with the case, Graysmith reputedly knows more about the killer than anyone else. His popular 1986 Zodiac offered such a thorough account that even a lead investigator used it as a reference. In that book, , seasoned true-crime author Graysmith identified the most likely suspect though only under a pseudonym, Richard Starr, hoping the book would trigger a reader to come forward with incontrovertible evidence. The suspect died in 1992, and in this follow-up to Zodiac, Graysmith now identifies "Starr" by his real name, Arthur Leigh Allen, a terrifying sociopath and convicted pedophile whom police long considered the prime suspect. Culled from official records and new interviews conducted in recent years, the latest book excavates the still burgeoning 30-year history of investigations into the Zodiac murders six confirmed and dozens of others that the killer claimed to have committed, and who spawned a score of copycat killers, most recently a 15-year-old from Kobe, Japan. The Zodiac case is convoluted at its heart and though Graysmith's evidence against Allen plays solidly, the narrative often gives way to unexpected segues and jumps in time. To keep track of this case that has more facets than a diamond, readers will need a scorecard. Photos and other supporting material in the book were not seen by PW.

Graysmith was employed at the San Francisco Chronicle in 1968, when the serial killer known as Zodiac began methodically brutalizing and murdering random victims across California. Zodiac, who was something of an egomaniac, communicated with authorities via the Chronicle. In addition to gloating over the inability of law enforcement to capture him, he would often describe how he intended to kill his next victim or would recount in chilling detail the last moments of someone he had savagely slain. At least 37 gruesome murders were attributed to him in the state of California; however, competing investigations (because the murders happened in several different counties) and other mishaps led to his consistent evasion of authorities. In this excellent study of the case, Graysmith provides never-before-published photos, a complete reproduction of the Zodiac letters, and a scary and disturbing account of pure evil. Libraries with a readership interested in true-crime tales will definitely want to stock up on this probable best-seller from the author of the widely read Zodiac (1986), which was his first book on the subject. Total Zodiac.

Read the first Zodiac & saw the film; loved both. The second Zodiac (Unmasked) is full of detail, almost step by step, month by month. Read them both as this is a fascinating case. Could not believe however that if the involved law enforcement departments had shared information the Zodiac would have been apprehended right away.

Robert Graysmith has convinced himself that Leigh Allen was the Zodiac. The book is an interesting read but nothing more than a spin on very weak circumstancial evidence. I wonder why the 2 SFPD that confronted the Zodiac after the brutal murder were never able to indentify Allen as the Zodiac. No prints, nothing close to suggesting Allen wrote the letter and cryptograms, nobody placing him anywhere near the scene of any of the crimes. They just never had even close to a case but Graysmith actually belives that he has uncovered the deceased Zodiac. I am not convinced.
In the years since Robert Graysmith's seminal book ZODIAC touted "Robert Hall Starr" as the top suspect in the unsolved murders of five San Francisco Bay Area residents, it has become increasingly difficult to discuss the Zodiac case without also discussing Arthur Leigh Allen. Allen, the Vallejo resident and convicted child molester who served as the inspiration for the pseudonymous "Starr," died in 1992 under a cloud of speculation that he was the notorious serial killer who put five bullets in the back of a teenaged girl as she ran for her life, shot her date point-blank in the head, fired on two more youths as they sat in a lovers' lane, brutally stabbed another couple as they lay hogtied at his feet, and cravenly murdered an unsuspecting cab driver. He was never charged for those murders, however, and despite the best efforts of some investigators, not a single piece of evidence was ever developed that could tie him to the Zodiac crimes. In fact, Allen's alleged links to the case have been found time and again to be false, coincidental, or attributable to his deviant personality.

An impossible situation, few suspects, and no help. It's a well woven tale told by a person who couldn't have imagined it, who would have had to live through it. An edge of your seat tale from beginning to end. I'm hooked on the Anna Pigeon series.

Fire everywhere -- no one is safe!

Anna Pigeon, Park Ranger, has been called to Northern California's Lassen Volcanic Park to fight a blaze of suspicious origin. Danger exists in the air she breathes and the exhaustion that takes a toll on all firefighters that have been brought in to save the park.
Nevada Barr convincingly shows why rangers are called from many locations and the need to work as one in the midst of a Firestorm. The problem in working as one is that there is a murderer who has no compunction about covering up the first death with more. The most intense scene is when the Firestorm is blasting down the trail and the only way to survive is as dangerous as the fire itself.
Ms. Barr is a great storyteller who writes what she knows. I have no doubt that she has experienced survival in various parks and on a myriad of projects. She brings with her the full power that a writer can when she has lived the events--perhaps not the murder itself, but survival in it rawest form.

Classy Ending

Meredith Llewellyn has her hands full as headmistress of the Bellehaven Finishing School for Young Ladies trying to teach her female students proper manners, as well as making sure her assistant, Roger Platt, keeps his hands off said students. The last thing she needs or wants is a visit from a ghost who wants her to solve a murder, but that is just what happens when the ghost of Lord James Stalham appears to her. Stalham was accused of murdering his father and hanged for the crime but the more his ghost visits Meredith the more she becomes convinced of his innocence. Now, Meredith has even more work on her hands as he tries to not only solve the murder, but deal with a couple of housemaids who are determined to be suffragettes and a school full of girls who don't always behave as they should.

"Murder Has No Class is the third, and unfortunately last, book in Rebecca Kent's (a.k.a. Kate Kingsbury) delightful Bellehaven cozy mystery series. It is a shame really, because I thought this was the strongest book of the series as Kent seemed really comfortable with the characters at this point. As she did in the Pennyfoot Hotel and Manor House mysteries, Kent/Kingsbury populates the book with strong female characters - Meredith, her fellow teachers Felicity and Essie, and housemaids Olivia and Grace (Olivia more than Grace). Because this is the last book in the series Kent able to put in the book a few things about Felicity and Essie that helps explain why they sometimes act the way they do, which helps make them stronger characters. I even found myself accepting a possible Meredith/Stuart Hamilton romance - something I wasn't fond of in the two previous books. Besides the rich character development in the book there is a wonderful sense of humor throughout the book and readers will eagerly look forward to the events at dart tournament. The mystery and paranormal elements are well done and readers will be surprised and somewhat saddened when the killer is revealed.

Murder has no class is the excellently done final book in an all too short, cozy mystery series. The first two books in the series are High Marks for Murder: A Bellehaven House Mystery and Finished Off (Bellehaven House Mysteries).

NOT A GOOD READ

Just completed this third book in the Bellehaven House Mystery series and it took a lot of determination to get through them. (Kept thinking something would improve.) I probably won't read the fourth book if another comes out. I found the main character Meredith (and the secondary characters) just too irritating and completely cliched. She's the headmistress of a girls' school but seems to have lots of time to be away from school on ghost mysteries. She turns into a silly teenager when dealing with the (male) owner of the school so it's easy to anticipate what will be happening between them in the future. The discipline at the school is nonexistent. No wonder the girls keep breaking the rules; they know the worst thing that will happen is being confined to their rooms for a while. Meredith's male assistant breaks the rules, too, and nothing happens. I keep wondering when one of the female students will become pregnant from a (supposedly) forbidden assignation with this Mr. Platt. Maybe then his unfit behavior will be taken seriously? It's annoying that Meredith ALWAYS gives second, third, fourth, etc., chances. Of course it's fiction, but let's just say I'm disappointed in the "light" story lines when this series could have been so much more.

Charming and Crafty!

It's a charming page-turner plot with a great setting, appealing characters, decoupage tips/tricks, plus the author's special blend of snarky fun humor!

I loved this book. I'm all about characters that make me smile and situations that make me laugh out loud. Lucy Lawrence did it all. I didn't want the book to end and can't wait for her next one. She's one funny author and she tells a great tale.

About the Author
Kate Quinn is a native of Southern California. She attended Boston University, where she earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in classical voice. A lifelong history buff, she first got hooked on ancient Rome while watching I, Claudius at the age of eight. She is the author of the Empress of Rome saga, including Lady of the Eternal City, Empress of the Seven Hills, Daughters of Rome, and Mistress of Rome, as well as two novels about the Borgia family, The Serpent and the Pearl and The Lion and the Rose.

Excellent High Imperial Fiction

Kate Quinn pens an outstanding piece of historical Roman fiction with this outstanding novel. At times a historical romance and at others a first-century political thriller, "Mistress of Rome" is at its core a story of two parallel lives: Lepida Pollia, the spoiled daughter of an ascendant-aristocratic father and her slavegirl, Thea, one of the few survivors from the siege of the Jewish fortress at Masada.

Despite the two young women's differences in social standing, Thea is quickly vying with her mistress for the affections of the barbarian gladiator Arius, and infuriates the young patrician by her success with the fighter. Sold to appease Lepida's wrath, Thea embarks on a road that will take her down an even darker path than through the barracks of the arena, with the only key to her freedom lying in the hands of the emperor, Domitian. But Domitian has a dark side, and a woman from Thea's past envies her position at the emperor's side.

Clever weaving of historical fact, "facts" gleaned from ancient authorship, and original invention makes this a compelling read; historical inaccuracy is minimal and employed for story purposes rather than out of error. The Domitian-era setting was a refreshing one; this is one of the few high-imperial novels that I have come across.

Recommended for readers looking for character-driven plot and excellent development; the heroes and their supporting castmembers are endearing and sympathetic.

good but brutal...

I noticed many reviewers here on Amazon say that Mistress of Rome is a "fun" read. I wouldn't use the word fun. Gripping, yes, dramatic, yes, brutal and sad , yes. It's a good book but when you have a story where the two main characters are a 14 Year old slave (who is abused by her mistress and is forced to sleep with her master at 14) and the "hero" is a Gladiator who also has had a brutal life as a slave before being bought to become a gladiator-well, you are not going to get sunshine and rainbows. But you will get an honest portrayal of life in ancient Rome.

This is the debut of, whom I foresee, to be the next New York Times Bestselling author: Kate Quinn. Mistress of Rome is a fast-paced, emotionally charged, sensual exploration of life in Ancient Rome during the reign of Emperor Domitian. From the first page to the last the reader is instantly embroidered into a world of emotion, sensuality, and political intrigue.

The plot of this story centers around a slave girl, Thea, and her transgression through Roman life. Thea is last survivor of the siege of the Jewish fort of Masada in Israel. Lepida, Thea's mistress (owner), is one of those characters you love to hate. Lepida has a liking to three things: money, power, and men. Arius, is a gladiator (a very successful gladiator) who Lepida decides to target as her next play thing. One problem. Arius and Thea, fall in love. Lepida quickly finds out and sells Thea to a whore house, separating Thea and Arius.

Thea is pregnant and is to sold to a musician who trains her to sing and play the lyre. As her fame grows Thea catches the eye of the emperor. The emperor is intrigued by Athena, Thea's stage name, and deems her his mistress thus beginning her journey as The Mistress of Rome.

The characters in this book are so realistic. The whole way you feel their angst, their pain, and their lust. You grow to love them and some you grow to hate. In the first chapter of the book we find out that Thea cuts herself in order to escape the tragedy of her life through physical pain, every time she does it you want to be there with her to take the knife away and reassure her. When her and Arius get torn apart your heart aches for the separated lovers.

Speaking of lovers...Thea and Arius are amazingly compatible. Both were taken from their homeland to serve as slaves for the Roman empire. Both are damaged emotionally beyond all belief. Both are undeniably in love with the other. The best part of their romance was that it wasn't the run-of-the-mill romance. There were years when the two didn't even see, hear, speak of each other, they slept with other people, Thea sleeps with EMPEROR OF ROME, and yet still their love holds strong. Their romance is tragic, its believable, its heartbreaking, and its real. I was rooting for them all the way, even more than 2 millennia later.

The other two characters I have to mention are Lepida and Emperor Domitian. They will intrigue you, they'll make read over a page again for you to actually believe another human being would do/say what they just did. These two helped make this book one of my new favorites. Lepida and Domitian made Mistress of Rome a realistic possibility of Ancient Rome and not a unbelievable historical fantasy.

Kate Quinn wrote one of the best books I've read in a long time. I still find myself thinking about the characters and their lives now and then and I finished the book a month ago. An author that can compel readers to think about their book so long after wards is as amazing, if not more, than the book they wrote. Her characters were realistic, whether they be good or evil, they were real. Her plot was intriguing and gripping from page one to the final word. Her writing was flawless, with amazing descriptions of Ancient Rome you were transported to her world.

Who do I recommend this book to? Everyone. Even if your not a fan of historical romance you'll love this book. A warning though...it is graphic and there is adult content but its totally worth the read.
