After All These Years, This is The Answer!

I have done it all, in an effort to lose weight. Yes, I've tried weight Watchers, The Zone, even lap-band (which went terribly wrong)Redux, Fen-fen. I can't even imagine how much danger I put myself into with some of these methods. Oh yeah-even the "Grapefruit Diet."
I lost 10 pounds in two weeks on the Rice Diet. Along with the brown rice (which keeps cravings for salt and sugar at bay) I added raisins,1/2 banana and some chunk pineapple for breakfast. This is only what I do and you will find your way. For lunch, I would have raw vegetables with salsa! to top the brown rice For dinner, I would have steamed vegetables and the McCormicks's flavored spices which are salt-free. I didn't even miss the salt (which was my BIG craving) or the sugar.
In my case, my thinking processes cleared up (I felt less muddled) and as a woman who is post-menopausal, that is quite an endorsement.
Initially, my reason for going on the Rice Diet (I don't even call it a diet, but a "food plan") was because, as a survivor of breast cancer (six years into recovery) I had a pretty bad case of lymphodema to deal with in my left arm.I was always told to limit salt, but it wasn't working. In a week I started to notice that the swelling had gone down noticeably.
As a failed dieter, I can't say enough about this food plan.

Best Diet Book I've Read!

Despite some of the crappy reviews I decided to get this book anyway and take a shot at it since I know one person in my life who has had some dramatic weight loss in just 30 days from this plan.
I'm glad I bought this book. Unlike other diet books that I've read in the past that just talk about the diet plan, this book also talks about yoga, tai chi, meditation (taking time for yourself), walking, and breathing...all elements necessary for losing weight and keeping it off. It makes the whole idea of "lifestyle change" complete rather than being some half-baked diet plan that I'll stay on for a few weeks at the most.
And the diet isn't just about rice, as the title leads us to believe. You can eat other starches too like pasta and potatoes. I like how I can eat fruit and veggies. Warning: Meat eaters will have a hard time adjusting. I'm a vegetarian and this is the ONLY diet book I've ever come across that isn't pushing chicken and other meats.
Finally, the most important element of this diet is that it allows you to detox in the first phase so you're cleaning your body out, getting rid of excess water weight, and gearing up for lots of weight loss, energy, and a new body.
This is an awesome book. If you're on the fence about it because of some of the poor reviews, I can guarantee that the people who degraded the book didn't use it. They were probably stuffing brownies in their face while reading the book and then have the nerve to say it's the worst diet book ever, or that it won't work. How would they ever know?

Lost 25 pounds in 5 months

Between June 3 and Oct 13 of 2011, eating specifically as indicated in this book I easily lost 25 pounds. I haven't done any additional exercise or anything to boost metabolism. I do, and have always walked 3.5 miles a day - and continued with that practice during this time. Three things I'd share from my experience. First, I read reviews that said the recipes were way too complex. The recipes are provided to give you help at getting diversity with this way of eating. But truthfully, I just ate beans, rice, vegetables, fruit and yogurt in the no-fat, no-salt, no-sugar, no-alchohol, no-caffeine, 1000-calorie a day way they describe. I spice my food with hot pepper and various herbs - but it is just a simple way to eat. Second, I've spoken to people who think of this as too strict or too bland. As to bland - your tastebuds adapt and blossom quickly and the things that you once found bland become delicious. As to strict, I allowed myself to have nights or events when I ate anything I wanted or whatever was served at an event or dinner. Then the next day I just went back to this way of eating. Maybe I could have lost weight faster, but by doing this I have never felt deprived. Third, prior to going on the diet I became very conscious of how food addictions and cravings were ruling my life. I actually experimented, one by one, with removing these from my diet. By doing this, I learned what each craving felt like - what the thoughts felt like that each craving produced. So when I started this way of eating I was very prepared to understand what I was experiencing in the first week or so when all of my cravings (which weren't being fed) were "talking" to me. This allowed me to not act on them, or to gradually stop giving into them. Now, I am craving free - and very happy eating this way. Occassionally, when I get busy and forget to eat I will get an intense craving that feels like a sugar craving - but I have learned that this is just my body's way of saying, "I am hungry, feed me good food." So I will eat a real meal and not eat a candy bar or whatever.
This book is full of great learnings presented both in clear language, in case studies and stories, and in recipe form. It is a wonderful resource - and best it is a tested and proven way of losing weight given from the longest runing proven weight-loss clinic in the US. I am delighted to give my highest recommendation to this book. It is more than a weight-loss book, it is a well-documented weight-loss book that will restore your sanity and give you control in an area of your life that you currently have none. Don't hesitate to buy it and try it.
