An amazing world that just got more complex

Quick Summary
As a child, DarkRiver Sentinel Clay Bennett once sacrificed everything to protect someone he loved but it came with devastating consequences. Now many years later, Talin MacKade has come back into his life asking for help and Clay is stunned...by the woman Tally has become, by the life she's struggled with and by the strength of his own feelings. But Tally's return brings with it danger; children associated with the powerful Shine Foundation are turning up dead and Tally is determined to stop whoever is killing the children under her care.
What I Liked
I loved the new things Nalini Singh introduced into the series: more on the Implant Protocol, more Psy disruption, and The Forgotten. The Psy-Changeling world is growing so much and becoming so diverse and complex. Again, past couples feature heavily in this book so that was nice as I always enjoy revisiting past characters. Tally's upbringing and struggles with life were very hard to read about; you can't help but feel for her. I loved reading how she came to find acceptance in herself and how she's worked to overcome her struggles and help others like her. Up to his point Clay has been the strong, stoic type and we haven't gotten too much on him. In this book, we see why Clay is so dark and surly. He wasn't my favorite changeling but his care of Tally and his desire to make her a part of his life again was beautiful.
What I Didn’t Like
The changelings have dominance and possession written deep into their bones but Clay was a little much for me. He was by no means the worst I've read in paranormal romance but his possessive nature did push the line quite a few times. Clay struggles with Tally's past and the things she's done and it gets a bit judgy without the reciprocal judgment being place on Clay. The one thing that makes up for it is that, for the most part, he's not too jerky and his devotion to Tally is crystal clear.

Excellent

I love the writing style of this author. I have devoured the first 4 books in this series and am about to begin number 5. It would be redundant for me to retell the story when several other reviewers have done a great job of summarizing it; however, there are a few things I would like to add.
First I am amazed at the thoroughness of Ms. Singh's character development. Each character is very unique, not cut and paste. She brings them to life and breaths a passion and intensity into each one that kept me turning the pages. I didn't want to put the book down.
It is rare to find truly unique new talent. I believe Ms. Singh is a must read for paranormal romance readers. My only fault would be with her proof readers/editors. The typos and faulty phrases are a bit distracting, but I feel sure that will change now that her talent is obvious.

I have enjoyed this entire series very much! I have favorite couples of course but the continuing characters and the Psy/Changeling world are all 5 stars for me. So happy to have found this author through recommendations here on Amazon.
