Book #4 in New York Times bestselling author Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse Mystery series...
Clare Cosi's new friend, millionaire David Mintzer, has an offer no New York barista could turn down: an all-expenses-paid summer away from the sticky city. At his Hamptons mansion, she'll relax, soak up the sun, and, oh yes, train the staff of his new restaurant. So Clare packs up her daughter, her former mother-in-law, and her special recipe for iced coffee--for what she hopes will be one de-latte-ful summer...
Soon, Clare tends the coffee bar at her first Hamptons gala. But the festivities come to a bitter end when an employee turns up dead in David's bathroom--a botched attempt on the millionaire's life. Thanks to the Fourth of July fireworks no one heard any gunshots, and the police are stuck in holiday traffic. Concerned for everyone's safety, Clare begins to investigate. What she finds will keep her up at night--and it's not the java jitters...

This series keeps getting better
By Esther Schindler
In the first two books in the Coffeehouse Mysteries, the action is set in cosmopolitan New York City. This story takes a summer break: Claire Cosi is helping a friend get his (coffee-centered!) restaurant started in the Hamptons, at the end of ritzy Long Island, and living in David's house (mansion, more like) along with her daughter and boss/ex-mother-in-law. During the Fourth of July party, one of the restaurant employees is shot to death... and Claire is certain David was the target. The police don't agree. Naturally, she feels compelled to find out the truth.
That's a recipe for a standard cozy mystery, but this one does a particularly good job. First, Coyle makes Claire completely believeable. Other than the initial premise (*I* never had a customer offer me the opportunity to spend the summer in the Hamptons), the protagonist makes sensible deductions, and has normal reactions to stress (such as an ongoing spat with her daughter). The pacing is done well enough that I kept turning pages, and I gulped down the book in a few short days. Best of all, I really didn't know who the murderer was until it was revealed.
The coffee recipes (including an 8-layer fancy coffee drink and espresso-boosted brownies) and coffee knowledge (a long essay on matching high end Brazillian coffee with almonds and figs) are well integrated into the story, too. You learn a lot, without feeling as though Claire stepped out of character and up to a podium. It's also more than "basics" in coffee knowledge; I did learn quite a bit (and I'm going to seek out that Brazillian coffee she mentioned).
I got just what a wanted from a cozy mystery story: entertainment, escape, a not-too-easy puzzle to solve, and enough knowledge to make me feel that I'd learned something new. I enjoyed it. I think you will, too.

A review from East Hampton about a story set here
By HeyJudy
I have read every book in this series so far, and MURDER MOST FROTHY definitely is the best to date.
That I enjoy the series speaks for itself, or I wouldn't keep buying these books. Still, in MURDER MOST FROTHY, author Cleo Coyle seems to be hitting her stride.
The earlier books were set in Greenwich Village (Manhattan), a neighborhood in which I've logged years, both in school and at work.
This latest mystery takes place in East Hampton, my adopted hometown.
Allow me to say, the sense of place that the author conveys about East Hampton is far stronger than existed in those earlier novels. Coyle does an excellent job of explaining both the physical setting and the attitudes here; if anything, she does not go far enough. (And, while she says that the story is centered in East Hampton, it feels more like Bridgehampton, five miles west, to me. Yet her decision as to location is understandable, as East Hampton is both marginally larger as well as far more famous.)
MURDER MOST FROTHY is, indeed, frothy. Nonetheless, it is an engaging mystery placed against an interesting background, with many clever and unexpected turns. Its only failure, like the Coyle's other mysteries, is that, ultimately, it is too sketchy. All of its subplots could have been longer and the story only would have been better.
On the other hand, as it stands, it is a fun read, and a quick one.
